The Practical Lite Workshop is Metalcraft's beginner metalworking tool kit - the ideal first purchase for anyone unsure where to start. Built around lighter steel (10mm × 1.6mm and 12mm × 2mm), it covers the fundamentals of wrought iron craft and DIY without overspending on capabilities you don't yet need.
What's in the kit
Note: the Practical Punch/Shear in the Lite kit does not include the Tape Measuring Device - that's available separately or as part of the Practical Workshop and above.
Who it's for
- First-time metalworkers who want to learn the fundamentals before scaling up
- Craft and hobby users making lightweight decorative pieces
- Classrooms and youth workshops introducing wrought ironwork
- Buyers who want a confident place to start, with room to grow
What you can make
Candle holders, small hanging baskets, weathervane components, garden ornaments, signage, decorative tags and small scrollwork. The kit is sized for visible, satisfying detail rather than full-scale gates and railings.
Designed to grow
The Practical Lite is intentionally a starter kit - every component is upgradeable. Add the Practical Twisting Tool for twisted bars, or step up to the Mk 2/2 (H) or Mk 2/3 Scroll Former for architectural-scale scrollwork.
Working capacity
Stated tool capacities apply to Hot Rolled Mild Steel and Annealed Bright Mild Steel. The Punch/Shear and RBR Tool can handle up to 20mm × 3mm, but the Mk 1/2 Scroll Former is sized for 10mm × 1.6mm or 12mm × 2mm material, which means the kit as a whole is best suited to lighter-weight craft and DIY projects. Working beyond stated limits, or with harder materials, may reduce machine life.
